Formed in early 2010, the goal of creating The Last Envy
from the very beginning
was to put on a great rock show with an eccentric, yet crowd pleasing mix
of rock and alternative music mainly from the 90's, but reaching back as far back as the 70's as well as
rocking out today's latest hits.
The Last Envy does just that.
Our song list consists of a wide range of hits from a large
number of bands that oftentimes leave our listeners saying "Man, I love that song!
It's been so long since I've heard it!". We are total suckers for the innumerous
90's one-hit-wonder bands whose songs most people know, but never remember... that is...
until The Last Envy plays them.
Our lineup consists of 4 locally born & raised musicians with varying backgrounds
and experience. Each player brings his own feel and flavor to the band; When brought
together on the stage for a show... the beauty of it all... it's palpable.
Keeping the tighest rythym you've ever seen (This can be attested to when the
"Drunk Guy" fell all over the gear, and Jake kept right on playing -- in-time)
we are very lucky to have Mr. Jake Harris on the drums. Jake has been on the scene for
roughly 10 years, having played with such
bands as V90, Golden Newbie, and currently Acoustically Challenged - one of
Chicago's hottest acoustic cover bands. With influences based in music from
such artists as Dave Matthews, Coldplay, Incubus and The Gorillaz,
He brings an excellent attitude to the
table, an incredible sense of feeling and harmony and above all - creates some of the most
slick and infectious grooves in Chicago's music scene today.
Any musician will tell you that having a bass player who is "locked-in" with your
drummer is absolutely essential to having a successful band. To compliment Jake Harris'
incredible skills on the drums, we are just as lucky to have Mr. "Joliet" Dave Rodriguez
playing the bass guitar. "Joliet" Dave has been on the local scene for over 35 years playing
in a number of successful blues bands, rock bands as well as solo gigs in California and
beyond in his long musical career playing both bass and electric guitar.
He currently calls Chasing Amy, another great local band,
home as well as rocking out with us on a regular basis. Simply put... "Joliet" Dave just
knows what to do - and he gets it done... with style and with grace. His influences mainly
stem from early metal and blues; Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Muddy Waters and
many more.
A truly gifted vocalist can sometimes be a difficult thing to come by. Thankfully, we have
Mr. Chris Moran on lead vocals here in The Last Envy. The founding father of the band, it was
Chris who organized and selected the musicians to fill the lineup. Oh, did I mention that he also
plays guitar? Along with being our lead vocalist, Chris works with Jake in Acoustically Challenged,
and has done so for the past 10 years playing guitar and singing.
He brings a wide range of vocal abilities to the group with
influences from bands such as Sister Hazel, Collective Soul, Pearl Jam and U2. On guitar, Chris
puts it down like no one else. He can turn a 3 chord rythym into something that sounds like so much
more. He's performed both with bands and alone - performing complete shows alone with nothing but himself
and an acoustic guitar. His positivity, drive and ambition are always front-and-center when it
comes to this band, and it shows in his music.
Last but not least... no rock 'n roll band is complete without the
obnoxious one... the lead guitar player. Rich "Ho" (That's a long story) has the least amount of
experience of the group, but makes up for that in what he brings to the live show with regards to
guitar playing and vocal abilities. He's only been on the scene for about 5 years and been playing
guitar seriously for just about as long. His influences range from AC/DC, Black Crowes, Metallica and Alice in Chains
to Maroon 5, Collective Soul and Foo Fighters. Usually he can be found providing backup vocals to
Chris Moran's lead singing, but he does take the reigns on some songs and let the vocals fly.
His melodic and oftentimes haunting leads intersparsed with bits of shredding leave our listeners
craving for more at every show.
Together on stage, the chemistry between the 4 players in this band is something to behold.
If you haven't seen a show yet, you truly are missing out on a treat. Don't be shy! C'mon out
and meet the band. You'll find that above and beyond the musicianship in this band, all 4 guys
truly are down-to-earth dudes who have a true love of music and appreciation for anyone who
comes to see them play. Check the show dates! Make an evening of it and bring everyone you know
to The Last Envy show. One last thing...
Be prepared to ROCK.
